Cannot find grldr during computer startup before windows is loaded

Hello all,

This is my first post on this subject and only a second time here, so please be patient with me.

I attempted to download Hiren's boot cd from the Hirens website and install it onto a usb drive. Since attempting this I get a message as follows (before Windows 7 loads).

Try (hd0,0): FAT16: No GRLDR
Try (hd0,1): NTFS5: No grldr
Try (hd0,2): NTFS5: No grldr
Try (hd0,3): Extended:
Try (hd0,4): FAT32: No GRLDR
Try (hd1,0): FAT32: No GRLDR
Try (hd1,1): invalid or null
Try (hd1,2): invalid or null
Try (hd1,3): invalid or null
Cannot find GRLDR.
Press space bar to hold the screen, any other key to boot previous MBR
Timeout : 3

The computer doesn't seem to have any issues and I have tried to run a startup repair from the Windows 7 installation disk with no help.

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 1750, Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit (Upgrade from Vista Home Premium).

Thanks in advance for the help
B

Andrew129260,
Thanks I will use this to troubleshoot the issue. I may need to also clarify that the computer performs post steps first, then displays the message, and then boots into Windows normally.
Thanks,
B

A Google search with the term "what does No GRLDR mean" returns the following link as the second choice;

No GRLDR after I installed Hiren's on my USB key - Community forum - reboot.pro

Andrew129260,

I used the link that you provided to perform the troubleshooting tasks.
- Ran Malware bytes full scans in Safe mode with no malicious items detected.
- Ran SFC /scannow command in an elevated command prompt.
- Performed several Startup Repairs, restarting in between each, using Windows 7 installation media.
None of these repaired the issue.
- Used the Windows 7 installation media and the Command Line system recovery option to access bootrec.exe and performed all of the commands listed and the issue was repaired. Restarted the computer numerous times today and it starts normally. I will monitor it in the next few weeks and see if it happens to come back but it appears to be good.

Thanks,
B
