CMD colors permanently changed

Not a huge problem, but an annoying one.

CMD screen text and background colors are changed and I can't change them back using the property options.

It's like something is overriding the color properties. Every time I bring up a new CMD window, the colors are the same and changing them does not even affect the current window.

Thanks in advance

The Prompt command would accept "ansi" codes to set text and background colors. Maybe it's in the Registry somewhere.

Edit: Try in a cmd prompt:
Prompt <Enter>

with no params it should reset the default.

How are you opening a Command Prompt? Perhaps the shortcut you are using is doing it?

What happens if you type cmd into the Run box?

I was thinking of ansi.sys in the old Dos prompt. Actually now the color command can change foreground and background colors for the cmd prompt.

Get details by running
color /?
in the cmd prompt.

Thanks for the advice!

I found my way in the registry, more precisely to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor, where the DefaultColor binary file had been changed (somehow O.o)

IE 8 Colors
just a question of curiosity - not a function / malfunction question. what determines the background color of the tabs in IE 8? I have noticed different colors depending on what websites I have opened tabs for. are these controllable colors? or defined by the visited website?

desktop icons suddenly changed colors
I seem to have done something that screwed up my Win 7 RC slightly, but I have no idea what it was. All of a sudden, the icons on the desktop (more precisely, icons for links, not actual files) change their colors at the last stage of the boot up. What I mean is that after I type in my password the...
