Trouble installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. Error code: 0x0000100

Hey, new to these forums.

My laptop is having some crashing issues which I believe is due to a faulty installation of my current Windows 7. I want to re install it with Windows 7 Ultimate as a clean install. When I go to start up the installation and choose to receive updates, I get the error: "Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation. Error code: 0xE0000100"

From what I have read, this is due to a partition problem. Do I need to clear and format all partitions and boot the setup from a DVD? If so, how do I do this? Currently I am just running it using Daemon Tools Lite mounting software.

Hi there
you can try this

1) boot from Windows install / recovery disk and choose repair system ==>tools ==> command mode

type the following in
cd/bootrec
fixmbr
fixboot.

Now try and install again.

If you STILL get an error then get into command mode again via the Windows install disk

now type these commands in
DISKPART
LIST DISK

Choose the disk you want to install windows on -- or the only disk if its a normal laptop

SELECT DISK X where X is the disk number

CLEAN

CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY

ACTIVE

FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK.

(This will re-format the entire HDD - you can easily re-size afterwards with tools like GPARTED).

Now restart and install Windows -- if it STILL fails then you've got something wrong with the laptop.

Cheers

This software has a well established reputation for causing crashes/BSOD's....I recommend not using that at all.

Is there any other free mounting software you do recommend?

For installation? Just insert the DVD into the DVD drive and boot from that? Or am I missing something?

Your specs say the laptop comes with Home Premium. If so why are you reinstalling with Ultimate and have no disk media? Do you have a retail license for Ultimate? They are the exact same OS's with just a few extra expensive features in Ultimate that few consumers need.

Download and burn to DVD or flash stick the Win7 installation media for your licensed version on the COA sticker from Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Following those steps will assure you get and keep a perfect reinstall.

Boot the media to delete all partitions, create and format new. This should resolve the problem.

Two words for you my friend: Thank you....

I have a Windows 8 laptop that has an SSD built into the motherboard (don't ask) and it got locked after having to reinstall windows. This was the solution to the problem. I am very, very appreciative.
