Print screen puts it on the clipboard, then you paste it into Paint, Photoshop etc. Alt print screen = active window. I tend to use the snipping tool.

Hi Timsky and a warm welcome to the Forum.
Try this excellent tutorial:

Go for the Snipping tool Option in "Here's How" Line 1. Just post here if there is anything you don't understand!

Hi,
The Print screen key usually needs another key pressed as well,
If the Prtscrn key is Blue you would need to use the FN key or if you have a FN key,

It could also be the Shift key combination or hold down Shift + press the Prtscrn key,
Then Open Microsoft Paint and use the Paste button on the top left.

You might even be able to hold down the Windows logo key + Prtscrn,
Cheers.

Hi,
The Windows Clipboard only holds one item you copy in one way or another, there is No where to find it,
Taking a screen shots is basically Copying,
So you would need to open a program = Microsoft Paint and use it's Paste button to retrieve that Copied file.

The easiest program to use is Microsoft Snipping tool but you do need to know how to use it,
Both are built into windows,
You can Click Start and type in the search box either/ Paint or snipping tool,
Cheers.

The OP appears to have a desktop with normal size full keyboard so pressing the print screen key is all he need do to put a copy on the clipboard. The use of the "Fn" key is normally just for smaller laptop keyboards. Pressing the Fn key in that case just brings other keys into alternative use! the Snipping Tool is by far the better,easier and versatile option. There is no need for third party software. We shouldn't encourage clearly new users to fill their PC's with unnecssary third party programs when there is a perfectly good Windows 7 built in facility!
Perhaps Timsky you would care to look at this guide to using the snipping tool that i wrote for my Computer Club a couple of years ago.

I use a 3rd party program, SnagIt, for screen captures. They have a free version, which can be downloaded from;

There are other free programs which are reviewed at the following link;

I find the "Screen Capture" feature in Windows 7 inadequate. I am sure there are others who find it sufficient.
