Windows Media issue - starts up whatever I click on

    Hi there,

I have an issue that I hope you can help me with. I apologise as I am not very save with computers, please bear with me.

I tried to download something this evening and have been having issues ever since, I think I have a virus. All efforts to restore, backup, delete etc end up with Windows Media Centre, worse still, my internet button/shortcut where removed when my husband decided to try and fix it. I managed to google how to short cut, however when I open it, AGAIN Window Media Centre opens, so I cannot even get on the internet to try and download a fix for it. I am writing this on my ipad.

Please in desperate need of advise, I have a lot of important college stuff on it.

    Thanking you
    Deb

This Sounds like a file association issue. In order to help us help you further, I ask that if possible you could give more information/details about what was going on when the problem occurred that will help us a lot.

    See here:

Default File Type Associations - Restore

Download the exe, LNK, and dll files listed there. Follow the directions in the tutorial to download and add them.

    More information on file associations:

Open With - Change Default Program

If you feel like you have a virus we can look into that as well.

    Hey Andrew,

Thanks for the reply, sounds fine, but it won't let me access the internet and therefore can't download, I'm using my ipad.

It's 3:50am, I'm worried I may do more damage than good through lack of sleep so I will log back on after a sleep.

Try doing a system restore, ether using option 1 logged into windows or option 2 at boot, using this tutorial:

    System Restore

Pick a date before all this stuff happened.
