Need info on whether I sell my old copy of Windows 7 Home Premium

Hello everyone, Im hoping you can answer my query.

Ive recently found an old copy of Windows 7 home premium in a drawer that I had installed on my old desktop computer.

I've peeled the licence sticker off that old PC and am hoping to be able to sell this on, as i dont use it any more.

The hard drive out of the old machine is now one of my external storage units.

Legally, can I sell this on? I didnt buy the copy as a standalone thing, but it was included in the price of the machine, so I dont see why i shouldnt be able to really.

Many thanks for your time.

Hello Windowsholic, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Sorry, but no.

Since it came preinstalled on an OEM computer, it will be permanently tied to the motherboard of that specific PC and cannot be activated on any other computer.

Damn, i had a sneaky feeling that was going to be my answer.

Is the disk any good to sell to someone with their own license number? Lots of computers dont come with recovery disks any more Ive noticed.

I want some money out of this!!

It's not legal to sell unless you sell it with the computer it came preinstalled on since it's useless on any other computer.

Oh bloody hell.

Thats gone from a great find in the back of a drawer to quite annoying stuff to be chucked in the bin.

Damn you Microsoft!

Thanks for your help, pal.

Can't blame Microsoft mate. That's the trade off for why you get an OEM copy of Windows cheaper than a full retail copy.

I can. The only company in the world that blocks you from selling your own property.

THAT should be illegal.

You don't own Windows, its not your property. You only have a license for it, nothing more.

It is legal if you sell the presintalled OEM Windows with the OEM computer that it came preinstalled on.

If you had a full retail box copy of Windows, then you could sell it like you wanted, but since you don't, you can't.
