Deleting a folder within a folder ?

I'm getting very frustrated by not being able to always delete a folder that is within another folder, with a file inside it.
Getting the 'You need permission to perform this action', with the try again error. I've got the 'Take ownership' reg addition, but it still won't let me delete.
It's got so bad at times that I've booted into Vista to delete the file.

Vista was bad enough for deleting files.
Unlocker unfortunately doesn't work in 64bit.

Is there a higher administrator permission that I'm missing in 7 ??

David.

Hi David,

It depends on the location of the folder, but you might see if deleting the file in the folder, then see if you can delete the now empty folder. It was a workaround in Vista that sometimes worked for this.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks Shawn, yes I did that in Vista and it usually works in 7, but today I've had a couple of files that refused to be deleted.
When I had Vista 32bit, Unlocker always worked, but it doesn't work in 64bit.

I wish there was a way to elevate the user account to have complete control over the system.
I've always used a good Internet security suite which has intercepted any nasties. Windows file security have never triggered for anything yet.

You might see if you can delete them from within the built-in Administrator account.

Thanks again Shawn,
Is it possible, on a first install of win 7 to enable the administrator account and run it as the only account ?

I tried it in Vista and got in a muddle with where the (from memory) start menu items were stored, so reverted back again.
I'm the only user of my pc and I like the pc to boot up without needing a password to boot.

Not during the installation process, but you can enabled right afterwards to use. You can then use it as your only account, but I would recommend to keep and use the default administrator account setup during installation instead and use the built-in one for a backup.
