Windows Explorer crashing on "all" 3rd party programs

    Hello everyone.

I recently have been having issues with my computer and its the most severe one ive ever had.

    My problem:
Windows explorer keeps crashing on everything and restarting. When I click, double click, right click, or even select with my keyboard it restarts. It does this for any exe and dll that I select.

I cant launch anything from task manager or run as it keeps restarting. A lot of things work through command prompt though . Oddly though it will launch a few executables (installers) through task manager and itll open and do the usual installer load and then it just never open beyond that and disappears from the task list.

My event viewer has a lot of warnings saying something about AI charger plus not able to load and ive been trying to re install it. But it will not open.

    What might have caused it:
Yesterday I decided to do my yearly cleanup on my computer so I went through and started uninstalling programs 1 by 1 that I didnt use. The next day I ran ccleaner and walked away from my computer. A few hours later when I came back my pc was off for some reason and now im having the issues that I stated above. Although before all of this happened windows explorer was crashing and restarting only when I logged in and wouldnt do it again then.

    What I have done:
Ive done SFC scan now about 20 times on normal and safe mode. No issues there.

Ive done a checkdisk as well.

I really dont wanna do a repair install because thats hella lazy and you dont learn anything. Ive done combo fix and didnt help. Ive reg defaulted all file types, startup repair, etc.

I dont know what to do. Im currently doing a diagnostic startup and seeing what I can do. Screenshot: imgur: the simple image sharer . Any one here have any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Please fill in your System Specs.

If this is the factory preinstalled Win7 then that is the worst install you can have anyway, so I'd do one perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 and then save a backup image so you never have to reinstall again, just reimage the HD in 20 minutes.

Otherwise work through the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 starting with the Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware scans, then SFC since the files may not repair if infected. Normally the steps will turn up the problem and help optimize your system best.

If you follow the steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 using only the tools and methods in the blue link tutorial, then you'll get and keep a perfect install for as long as you do. These steps compile what has worked best in tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here since beta, without a single complaint.

    Suggestion.
After following Greg's instructions don't install Asus AI suite. (AI charger plus)

All Asus Suits cause nothing but problems.

    From post #1

Hmm I never really had a problem with it until I did cCleaner.

Do you know any alternatives then that are capable of overclocking and auto voltage and controller chassis fans etc?

There isn't any mobo or factory software you want except in the rarest case a battery tender that preserves laptop battery by keeping charge under 60% when plugged in, or a HD monitor which locks the HD when a laptop moves. Even these may not be worth the interference. Most factory utilities interfere with better versions built into Win7. Asus factory software is particularly badly written, surprising considering it has first rate hardware.

Overclocking is another thing. Only if absolutely needed for gaming would I consider it as it causes more problems than it offers benefits. But we have an overclocking forum here to get customized help.

If one wants to over clock just for S & G that is fine.

The first thing is get a clean install as Greg has suggested.
Then one must spend money on better cooling.
Then one must become very familiar with the bios. (Homework)
Over clocking is done using the bios not a program!!
Reading post in our over clocking section of this forum would be helpful. (Homework)
Over clocking is some science and some trial and error.

Never over clock anything you can't afford to buy again. You can do damage.

Now to the subject at hand.
I recommend completing what Greg has suggested.

Im trying to do a system image backup and it keeps getting stuck at 17%/21% every single time it seems. Even after 10 hours its still there. At this rate it would take two days to backup. Backups shouldnt take that long at all. Im using a usb 3.0 2tb HDD. Are there any other system image programs I can use that would work?

Image your system with free Macrium

Go over your system w Troubleshooting steps below because the imaging failure could mean corruption which needs remedying.
