Showing desktop causes uTorrent to close

Hi. This may very well be the weirdest problem I've seen on my PC. It's a self-build I've just done and I've installed the same programs I had on my previous PC. One of them is uTorrent and I have a shortcut to the exe file on my desktop. Whether I launch it from the desktop or from C/Program Files(x86) the same thing happens – if I return to the desktop, uTorrent disappears.


It's fine when switching between windows or opening something from the Start button, it's just going to the desktop that causes uTorrent to close.


Something else that's probably relevant: the very first attempt (i.e. just after bootup) to open uTorrent from the shortcut has no effect other than to cause the uTorrent icon to flicker (as if it's trying to open but can't). On subsequent attempts it opens fine, it just won't remain open if I re-visit the desktop.


All very odd. Can anyone suggest a reason/solution? Thanks in advance.
