Why doesn't Windows tell you which process is being used?

Sometimes when a process locks a folder, you just get a pop-up sorry this folder is being used by another process.

How in the WORLD does that help you?

Why doesn't Windows give the exact process? {Pretty lame if you ask me....

It is lame. That's why programs like Unlocker are so useful. Install it, then when this happens Unlocker will pop up with the info you want and allow you to unlock/erase folders and files.

    Process Explorer

I don't know why that info is not shown as it would be of use at times.

You can usually tell the PID and process name using Process Explorer:

Great tip Callender, been looking for something like that. Certainly the best way to check processes, and it's part of Windows' own Sysinternals, no need to download any possible garbage.
