As it turns out, I had a chance to try out MouseKeys on a different computer. The maximum speed settings are many times too slow for me, so getting it working will be of little use.

Thank you all for your help, but I am giving up on this one.

Thanks for posting your findings and marking the thread closed.

You might search for a 3rd party solution - most of what I found were "How-to mousekeys" but there were a few add-ons. I suspect that those might also be insufficient though.
