Anyone regret moving to Windows 7?

I did the same thing I will never regret it.

I sufferred bugs (mostly minor) in Vista, and the same for Win 7. No sensible difference to me. And I should say I had more bugs in XP than in Vista :) And two of my friends who had moved to 7 tell me the same.

No regrets at all here. Vista never really gave me any major problems except on other people's machines that came with a bunch of crapware pre-installed and RAM deprived. If I had to pick things I hated about Vista they would be:

1. Built-in Backup program was utter garbage. Wouldn't backup .exe files!? I can understand the need for security, but if it won't backup what I want, then its useless.

2. The Vista Theme: I was getting pretty tired of the green/black and wave crap toward the end.

3. Constant HDD churning: Even with 4GB of RAM when I bootup, HDD churned for what seemed like forever. Install or uninstall and app, yet more HDD churning. Vista really loved to spin the ol drive I say. Didn't take long to disable Windows search and Superfetch to stop that nonsense.

4. Half-baked apps like Windows Mail, Calendar and Movie Maker.

What do I like about Windows 7?

1. A backup program that is actually decent.

2. Aero Snap, jump lists and taskbar previews are useful too me.

3. Disc imaging and Previous Versions available in Home Premium.

4. MUCH less disc churning.

5. A better, more pleasant theme.

6. Overall a snappier feeling UI.

7. Homegroup is a nice and simple feature for sharing files and printers.

8. Removal of sub-par apps (see # 4 on Vista dislikes)

9. DVD and AAC playback by default.

10. Media Center.

11. More customizable UAC (I still have it set to max though).

12. Gadgets aren't stuck in a sidebar anymore.

13. SuperBar is a refreshing change.

What do I dislike about 7 so far?

1. Control panel visually is less appealing than Vista.

2. Window Media Player needs an overhaul. While it looks nice, its missing features that should be standard (tag editor for example). and Its buggy with displaying album art.

3. Can't verify disc images in Home Premium. Seriously, why should that be a Professional and up feature?

While there are undoubtedly many people on both camps concerning Vista, in my town I was beginning to think I was the only one that actually liked Vista.

Sure, the one major bug I had with it was a few months after installing it (I got it a few days after initial release), the activation gave me an issue that required some creative tinkering with SLMGR to get working again. Other than that, Vista gave me no problems.

When Microsoft first released the 7 public beta, I did the normal routine and setup dual-boot between Vista and 7. Three days later I formatted the harddrive and removed Vista completely. That's how good 7 was, even in Beta. And it does not stop there. The RC showed vast improvement in performance and stability over the BETA.

And having installed the 7 release for several clients over the past two weeks, I can says with confidence that I have no regrets at all with my move to 7.

Prometheus is still running the RC, but I'll be hauling out the R1950.00 required for 7 Ultimate x64 towards the end of December, once I've paid off a few hardware upgrades I've made first.
