Rehide an autohide taskbar after an app pops it up

My taskbar is set to autohide. Instant messenger apps typically unhide the taskbar and flash their own icon orange. I can write a small program to stop the flashing, but does anyone know how to either

    1. Prevent apps from unhiding the taskbar or
    2. Rehide the taskbar programatically

I am already aware of this registry setting, but it does not help! It does not prevent the taskbar from unhiding. I am also aware that some apps have a setting to stop notifications - the one I am using does not.

    Thanks

    A.

Welcome to Seven Forums Adrian S. How about a Autohotkey script to toggle the taskbar? If the taskbar unhides, use the key combo of your choice to hide it again.

Thanks, but toggling the autohide property of the taskbar is not the same as rehiding a popped-up autohide taskbar. The taskbar is still autohide, but it is not hidden because an application has popped it up.

Find a replacement app that doesn't do it?

You could still use a script to hide it again, even if that particular one doesn't do it. A Guy
