When is the setting in Win7 that controls the time period after which the PC shuts down.

TIA Mary

Is there a power plan that controls shutdown and power off?

Thanks for the power plan tutorial citation pbcopter. Perhaps I need to more fully understand the sleep feature. I have selected the Dell option under the power plan which is supposed to balance performance with energy consumption ( I selected display off in 15 min and sleep in 45 mins) During the sleep mode the pc power button turns from white to yellow. I have been able to restore my Dell pc from sleep by tapping the Dell keyboard key that looks like a quarter moon. This has been working properly until now.

Lately the pc powers off completely and I have to reboot the computer to start windows. This has me confused because I have not messed with the power plan or made any intentional changes.

Can someone offer any insights?

Mary

You are most likely referring to hibernation, if you notice it should say resuming windows, even though you are still pushing the power button. It`s not the same as a true bootup of your computer.

Personally I only use sleep. With this case I actually do have to push the power button (it blinks) to resume it from sleeping, which I like

I use the balanced plan and have the monitor set to go off at 10 and sleep at 30.
