    Microsoft Windows Search Indexer

I keep getting this error that Microsoft Windows Search Indexer has stopped working, and if I want to send information about the error.

What is this? Has anyone else gotten this?

    Hello William,

Type services into the search bar, click on services scroll down to and stop Windows Search.

    Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows
    and delete the contents

Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Temp and delete the contents

    Restart your PC

The problem should now be solved

You should also send the information as it might help Microsoft to stop it happening again

When I go back to Services, and try to start Windows Search, it says it cannot be started now.

Windows search should start automatically you were only supposed to stop it so that you could delete the necessary files! Not change when it starts.

Set it back to auto check that you have only deleted the files that you were supposed to delete and do a restart.

    If this doesn't work you will then have to do a system restore;

What would it affect if I didn't do the system restore?

If you do what I first suggested it should cure the problem as windows search would rebuild itself ( It should still be possible to do this properly, make sure that windows search is set to start automatically)

If you do a system restore back to before you had this problem it will also sort out the problem. Your personal files should not be affected only Windows would be changed, but it would be wise to back up your files just in case.

If you do not do either of the above then your computer will stay as it is now

Let me know how it goes or if you need more help :)

Would simply clicking on "rebuild index" do the same thing?

What you are asking him to do, will that delete the GUI selected locations to index information from? Or will that still be intact?
