Hello oldbat, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if you may be able to do a system restore using a restore point dated before this happened to hopefully undo and fix it.

    Hope this helps, :)

no good there either, I did try. followed your directions :) tried restore first thing.
I have NEVER been able to get my system to do a repair or a restore. never.
always has told me can't do it for some reason.

only restore pt I have is 6 days ago. this has been a problem for about 10 days. I did try the restore/repair on the first day after researching the problem. didn't work. as usual, couldn't restore/repair. so then I tried the regedit thing. no go. i enabled the guest acct. no deal. today i found out about making a new acct. i have the icon on my login page, but i get the same error. when i look in the regedit while trying it again, i noticed that there is no key string that says it is for guest or for nana2. nana is there, and so is admin nana pc. and a 3rd one, plus i think 3 smaller sized entries. the third long entry is not for either nana, guest, or admin.

In that case, you may need to reinstall Windows.

The latest Windows 8.1 Update version is good for me. You might give it a play with.
