set the BIOS to have the CD or DVD drive listed first

I made a repair disc from my hubby's computer (we have same computers). I tried option 1 here:

System Recovery Options

using both local and admin accts. didn't fix the problem. system restore not an option as it doesn't go back far enough.

so I'm guessing my next step is option 2. I put in the disc, and restart the computer. it goes straight to windows logon screen. ditto for shutting down computer, putting disc in and turning it on. so I guess i need to set the bios??? woulda thought that woulda been the default. so how do I check that?

Reboot or boot the computer and during the startup process press the "F2" key to enter the BIOS. You can download the User's Manual from;

boot option priorities are

1. dvd drive
2. hard drive

so why is the repair disc not booting?

A couple of other things. Incase F2 does not take you to Bios, give the Delete button a try. It should tell you which button on the first logon screen. == I noticed in your Specs that you listed under Anti-Virus -- Malwarebytes. You need to use that, but it is not an Anti-Virus. A good one to download for free is Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

Since you made the Repair Disk from Hubby's Computer, there may be a slight difference and it isn't booting, but it sure seems like it should. Will your PC boot at all? If you can get in even with Safe Mode, make a Repair Disk using your PC and see what happens.

I did get to the bios and the order appears to be correct: dvd, then hd.

mse seems to have a problem running with mb for some reason. I did use to use it but some sort of conflict arose. or maybe it has a problem with zone alarm. I will try again. tyty

Windows 7 Home Premium 32-Bit - Build 7600 SP1

I just found this article.

The majority of restore and recovery CD's used by an OEM has been specifically designed for the computer it came with and therefore will not work with other computers. Often a restore CD made by the same manufacturer may not even work with other computers the same manufacture built. If you've lost the CD that came with your computer it's recommended you contact the manufacturer of that computer to obtain a new copy or purchase a copy of Windows from a local software retail store.
Can I get my restore CD to work on another computer?

One thing you can try is to download a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit. Make sure it is exactly that and it can be used as a Repair Disk. Go to this site for the download, it is free.

that seems to say my hubby's repair disc should work. is recovery disc and repair disc the same thing? I am using a repair disc. I think recovery wipes all?
