boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible

Ok, so my recovery partition disappeared, so as a last resort I followed these instructions - and changed my active partition to the second partition in my list... and now my laptop is utterly bricked.

I've tried downloading a windows 7 starter image and putting it on a USB and booting from that - but it won't - all that happens ever, is that I get this message:

Windows failed to start...to fix the problem:
1: insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
2. choose your language settings and then click next
3. click repair your computer

If you do not have this disc contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance

Status 0xc000000f

Info: the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

Help!!! please?

It sounds like your recovery partition was the active partition with the bootmgr. Dell makes setups like this.

If you set your C partition active and run startup/repair 3 times, you might be able to fix it.

Thanks, unfortunately as I can't access anything on the computer because of changing the active partition, I couldn't use either of the approaches that you suggested.

In a last ditch effort, I found another program for making USB boot drives on the Windows 7 forum and after downloading about three different ISOs of windows 7, managed to find one that worked.

So I have a computer that isn't bricked now... for which I am incredibly thankful - and thanks for your help!

What would that have to do with following the steps specifically titled Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot ?? Everything that can be done to start unbootable Win7 is there.

The Win7 installation media with which to do the booted repairs as well as any other boot disks needed are given in the first few steps . Of course you need another PC to burn them but that would be expected if you can't use the PC that's not working.
