From my recollection, there where no indicators that pointed to what was the cause. I noticed it most when I was interacting with chrome, Firefox, and word processors. While I would be typing or moving the mouse, the system would hang for 10 to 20 seconds for no reason. I do remember that It would get more extreme when more stuff was running in the background such as anti spyware/malware software or more tabs in Firefox. This was not the only problem I was encountering with this particular laptop either. It would hang at start up, occasionally crash, and had minor glitches here and there. I eventually found out it was due to the seagate momentus XT 500 GB hard drive that it was upgraded to. I recently swapped the hard drive with a similar, but none hybrid drive, re installed, and all issues are now gone. But I will never know if the hard drive caused the problem like you are having because I fixed that with a hot fix from MS. To answer your question. It would do it no matter how much ram or CPU i was using (but using more didn't help and sometimes made it worse). If you can find a way to Clone your hard drive to another hard drive and see if the problem persists, It may help your troubleshooting. Prior to the hot fix, I had temporarily replaced the ram. It didn't change anything.
