d no problems with Vista in another partition nor with XP.
I scanned the (two year old) hard drive with tool downloaded from Seagate
and found no problem.
I have just installed the newly released Windows 7 on a different partition and the same problem is happening. Any clues as to why this is happening and why should it only happen to Windows 7 and why now?
What is happening exactly?
How do you know there is corruption? What are error messages or symptoms?
Did you run Disk Check?
windows 7 has a problem Identifying the primary partition. If your using a HP computer that has a secondary that holds your factory image that is your problem.
use a good 8Gb flashdrive or external Harddrive and save that partition on it.
then make your system with NO PARTITIONS. then install your new 7 OS to a fresh formatted drive.
then you can create a new partition and put your factory image back there in case your need to restore to factory store bought image.
be sure to update your motherboard bios after you install 7 and your good to go.
It's very hard to install 7 on a drive with multiple partitions....

Part of my post is missing but I did do a chkdsk and repair but the problem kept coming back. Anyway I will do what you have suggested, but what puzzles me is that the original beta worked fine for months, and had no problems with the RC version until I installed some new software.
I have been reluctant to update the BIOS, as I keep hearing that you should avoid
doing that unless absolutely necessary.
By the way, I have a custom built computer, not an HP so should I still follow the procedure?
Also, I also have XP on another partition, which I do not want to remove.
You never identified your problem
No. I have done everything I can think of. Chkdsk repairs everything but it's not long before I start getting messages saying my hard disk is corrupt.
I use GWScan bootable to diagnose and repair HDD problems. It has fixed serious surface errors which chkdsk couldn't. It is for WD drives but works on most others.
The corruption notice is fair warning. Many don't get that much notice on failing HDD. The best you can do is a format to quarantine bad blocks, but the HDD is probably on its way out.
