Burning blu ray data with just windows 7

Hi all. I just picked up my first blu ray anything. A Asus blu ray burner. I got it for the sole purpose of burning my pictures and movies for a second back up as dvds were getting out of control. My question is can I burn a data blu ray with just windows, like how its done with dvds and cds. I did pop in a blank blu ray disk and went with the motion of creating a blu ray but I didnt want to commit because I only have 2 right now. My computer reconized a blank blu ray as a 25gb storage in the computer panel for what its worth. Thanks.

Someone with a Blu-Ray burner will surely answer :)

But from what I gather, it will.

Only one way to find out, didn`t the drive come with software ?

burning data blu-ray, all I get is coasters!

It came with a cd that had 3 program. None of it had to do with burning. One was a player because I dont think wmp plays blu ray. Something called e hammer and one that escapes me right now because I didnt install it.

Yes, it would have to come with a Blu-Ray playing program, and I would think a burning software too.

    I googled some free apps

IMG burn all the way. The Official ImgBurn Website and coasters are inevitable btw, what drive is it? might want to update its firmware first.

    ASUS Black 12X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 12X DVD-RAM 8X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA Blu-ray Burner BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS - Newegg.com

This is the one I picked up. Yeah, I did get imgburn but was still wondering if the default windows burner would work. I suppose Ill just try it out then take it to a friend with a blu ray drive to see if it works.

Why would you have to take it to someone else to see if it worked, just take the BR out, then put it back in and see if windows can read the files.
