    Annoying Pop ups. HELP.

I have done everything I can think of to get rid of these pests, I am using firefox and windows 7, i have scanned the computer with Malawarebytes, avast, and Microsoft essentials, reinstalled firefox, deleted all add ons, funny thing is only one site is badly affected, Dpreview, the site moderators assure me they don't use pop ups, is there anything more I can do? It really is driving me nuts.

    Hey there,

    You could try scanning with:

SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!

It is good at finding the tracking cookies websites use to get adverts and pop ups onto your computer.

The free version is more than enough to do this.

Do you have pop-ups blocked in your browser settings? For Firefox it's under Tools>Options>Content.

Ditto all the above. Try that first.

If you do have pop-ups blocked as gregrocker described, do you have any exceptions listed? When you reinstalled FF, did you ensure it was an entirely fresh install, not one that maintained some prior settings?

If none of this helps, you could try looking at FF add-ons and see if some of those will help. Not just pop-up blockers, although certainly take a look at those. Something controlling scripts might help. And if all else fails, you can look at tab/window-related add-ons and make it so that anything would open in a background tab. That would still be annoying, but the manageable sort. You'd be able to get work done.

Looking at what site(s) the pop-ups are being hosted by might also help. If they come from only a few sources, it might be worth concentrating on blocking out those. Watch the status bar/banner as they load in case of redirects.

    Can you provide any screenshots?

Someone may know what they are and how to deal with them.

Please read this entirely before we begin malware removal:

Before we start with malware assistance, I want to inform you of a few things:

1.) I am not a recognized malware removal expert. I do not have a certification from a malware removal school. Having said that, I have removed a lot of malware with PCs and have years of experience.
But just like no antivirus program is 100% effective, neither am I. My goal is to simply clean up your PC from any malware, and assist you in any way possible to help you secure your PC.

2.) Sevenforums (This forum)and I will NOT be held responsible for anything that might go wrong with your pc.

3.) You agree to follow all directions given, until I advise that your pc is clean and you are free of threats. You will not abandon the thread.

The most important rule of all:

4.) YOU WILL NOT INSTALL/change/modify OR ADD ANYTHING TO YOUR SYSTEM UNTIL MALWARE REMOVAL IS COMPLETE. No files or programs or anything of the sort.

Do you agree to these terms?

If yes, reply with a Yes. If not, please state so and I will flag an official malware remover, or I will recommend another place for malware removal assistance.

Tried your method Andrew, my screen went black, and system restore wouldn't work, ended up taking CP to repair shop, fixed for $20. I do not know what the tech'y did but all is fine now.

    Only $20 ? That`s awesome, good job

Now, you need to be more careful in your browsing and downloading

As asked, do you have your pop up blocker on , is it set on high, block all pop ups ?
