Desktop icons overlayed

Today, after downloading the latest Definition Update for Windows Defender, and re-booting as required, my desktop icons appeared with an overlay.

(See attch)
I downloaded and ran the Rebuild_Icon_cache bat file (3 times) without any change.
Ran Restore to a previous date without any change to the desktop.

Ran the sfc /Scannow file, and have attached the zipped file. Computer operates normally, except the icons have an overlay.

The CBS.Zip file is 26MB!?

I see no attachments.

Also, I have never needed to re-boot after installing Windows Defender definitions.

Hello Red,

Please go ahead and post a screenshot showing these overlays on the icons to see what it may be from. I'm thinking it may be something to do with your shortcut arrow overlay gone wrong, but let's see what the screenshot shows first.

Red,

Yep, the issue is with your shortcut overlay. You can use any one of the options in the tutorial below to restore the default shortcut arrow overlay to fix this.

Thank You, SIR!! Option 1 installed a lot of crapware (BlitzMedia, KNCTR, ITIBITI - even though I deselected all of the Yahoo stuff) but, using your option 3, I was able to use REGEDIT and resolve the problem.

Thanks again for your valuable help!

It sounds like you didn't click on the gray download button at the site in OPTION ONE since that program is a standalone .exe file that doesn't install anything, but I'm glad that you got it sorted.
