Windows 7: Windows 7 won't accept my password

Windows 7 won't accept my password

Just bought a new laptop Install seemed to be going well until I entered the wrong password for Wireless Network Chose to do a recovery to try to solve that issue. Upon restarting, my password was no longer accepted, although the password hint was still there. Not sure if the problem has to do with the fact that I performed a recovery, or because I somehow entered the wrong password twice during initial setup, or perhaps there's a finite number of password attempts that Windows 7 allows before it locks you out, because I've tried about 200 versions of my password Can anyone help?

Hello Jazzi, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You can use METHOD THREE in the tutorial below to reset your user account password.

I just have the same problem the OP had & I plan to use "Option Three" but I'm concerned about one thing.

What does this mean & how will it affect me?

WARNING
If you reset the password using the tool below, the user account will lose access to its encrypted files, encrypted e‑mail messages, and stored passwords for websites or network resources.

I just installed Windows 7 on my freshly built machine I literally haven't had a chance to use it before I forgot my password. So will taking this route to reset my password have any bearing on anything I do in the future?

Thanks.

Hello Mr Whitey, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You should not have a problem given your situation. This is mostly if you had used EFS file encryption and did not backup the EFS certificate to restore to regain access to the encrypted files. That's all.

Thanks for the links Brink!
I honestly had no idea what EFS encryption was. I do now though & I expect it to come in pretty handy in the future. I'm decent with computers but the more technical stuff is beyond my knowledge. I can change a head gasket with a blindfold on though.

After I successfully recovered the only password I had on my system (and I knew I had my password correct), I discovered that my keyboard was not transmitting certain characters, and that was the reason Windows did not recognize my password. The solution was a new keyboard.
