FIrst time ever using Windows 7 Home Premium

So I just started a new job today, and received a new Dell laptop that came with Windows 7 Home Premium installed. This is a small startup that does not have a domain yet, but I found something odd....I can't get it to require a password upon logon.

I used netplwiz.exe to access user accounts and checked the box "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer."

I've tried rebooting, unchecking, the rechecking, etc and still the same problem. When it boots up I can either click on my username or the admin user name and it just logs me in without ever asking for a password. Any ideas?

If you go back into netplwiz.exe, is the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" box still checked?

Have you given your account a password yet?

It's misleading. What it means is the user with a password protected account must enter both the user name and password instead of just clicking the icon and entering the password. Have any passwords been assigned?

Did you assign a password to those accounts? Blank passwords wont prompt for a password.

LOL, thanks for the replies everyone! I thought I had assigned passwords, but to make sure I just went through and reassigned to both my account and my administrator account and VOILA problem solved. I feel kinda silly now

You will feel really silly if you forget the password.
I recommend jotting it down and storing it in a safe place.

Why should you be different?

I found the Vista forum because Vista pre Service Pack was really tough to handle. I asked questions there. Somehow I got caught in the current and ended up on all the forums that followed. Hang around long enough and you'll be answering the questions.

Create a Password Reset disc/flash drive. Then when you forget it, it's easy to recover

Click Start, type password reset and press Enter.

Home Premium x64: Can't change new updates time and date
The pull-down menu to the right of "Install new updates" and the one to the right of "at" are both greyed out. I'm tempted to just turn off Automatic Updates altogether if I can't change these to a more amenable time of day for myself and others who may use this machine from time to time. I...

Helping my daughter today with a "new" (refurbed actually) ASUS laptop T4500, with a Home Premium 64-bit OS on it. Everything more or less worked okay out of the box as far as I can tell. But in the initial setup (the stuff that launches the first time you turn the computer on), when I...
