Windows 7: Cannot run windows update service error 1067

Cannot run windows update service error 1067 - NOW SOLVED

I have a small windows 7 laptop used only by one person for their email. In the last few days, updates stopped working. Currently, the Windows update service is stopped and will not start. It tries, but returns an error 1067.

I have tried a number of KB fixes. The Eventvwr shows error x080080005 regarding the Update Server "Server execution failed." Nothing much else.

SFC /SCANNOW reports no problems at all.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 outlines steps to potentially solve the problem, but has not solved it.

Antivirus from MSE, MalwareBytes and Kaspersky have found no problems, although MSE is now a few days out of date, as I cannot update it due to this problem.

I looked for any recently installed programs that might be badly behaving, but nothing has been installed within the last 30 days. I did choose to uninstall some much older programs of questionable value (odd brand PDF print tools).

The computer had a problem where it thought software was "currently being installed", when in fact none was, but the use of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 seems to allow forcing me to deletions and actually fixed the Programs and Features component to allow uninstalling software just fine. However, the Windows Update from the control panel or from the Action Center still does not work because the update service will not start (as stated at the top of this post).

I tried http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104 but in safemode, it does not work, again because the service will not start.

I used search to start "Identify and Repair", but that did not find any problems to resolve.

Suggested next steps? A guide? A utility? Thanks, I'm headed to sleep. It's been a long day and I'm tired of Microsoft.

Try Windows Repair (All In One)
Check "repair windows updates" and "repair important windows services". Other checks are up to you.
Post results.

Base Filtering Engine Service can be started successfully?

* Download the Farbar Service Scanner.

* Once download, right click the fss.exe file, and choose run as administrator.

*Checkmark the following boxes:

-Internet services
-Windows firewall
-System Restore
-Security center/action center
-Windows Update
-Windows defender

*Click Scan. A notepad window will appear with your log file. Save it to the desktop. Then upload the log here in your next reply using the paperclip on the reply box.

Thanks, I started the checks and backups and got a few hours sleep. This morning I ran the "repair windows updates". Note that at the end of some or all of the pop-up windows that did thing like look at network things, I saw "ERROR: TrustedIntaller.exe not found" or something like that, the windows do not stay up to copy from.

The log file results are:

I am about to reboot. I did not run (17) "repair important windows services", as I do not see such an entry in the menu. There IS a(26) "restore important windows services". I assume you meant that one, but I need to reboot first anyway.

PROGRESS of sorts...

Having rebooted, the Windows Update service is indeed running. I am trying a Windows Update. The laptop is now running like mud.

It is checking for updates, but also says:
Most recent check for updates: Never
Updates were installed: Never
You receive updates: For Windows only.

I attribute those statuses to changes made in the repair process.

Having no idea how long this will take or even if the check for updates is actually making any progress, I am going AFK.

.... OOPS! So tired (of Microsoft). I remember I had a restore services step to perform. Stopped the checking for updates making no progress and started Tweaking again. Will report back with results.
