    Minimized Programs and Resources

Does minimizing a program to the Task Bar and leaving it there for the day, using it off and on, use up more resources than we might suspect? I generally minimize Thunderbird and keep it open all day which makes it handy. Would it be wiser to close it after each use? Thank you.

Minimizing just hides the window and leaves it open so if it is a resource heavy program, it will slow down your computer if using some other program at the same time it is open. You should just save your progress and close the program and reopen when needed unless it is something that you will have to completely restart doing if closed.

Thank you. That is exactly what I was beginning to suspect. I'd been leaving Thunderbird open and minimized all day and returning to it to check mail off and on. Suddenly, yesterday, ESET had "error" trying to open hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys. It suddenly came to me that I might be using up all the resources by leaving the mail program open. It also had a third error but I don't think that one is connected to this.

Of course, the error could have been from some other cause but it looks like I should close Thunderbird between visits anyway. I appreciate your reply.

Anything that is running on your computer is using resources.

Anything that is running on your computer that is not need is wasting resources.

I do it simple on my systems. If I'm not using a program I turn it off.
I have enough system system I could leave lot of programs open but I don't.
    No need to.
