That is an Excel file extension. Not sure how it got on your Word files, but perhaps Excel will open them. Don't try this, tho, until someone here more experienced than myself chimes in and either agrees or disagrees with me. Can't be too cautious

Can you help provide a little more info.

Excel and Word are part of Microsoft Office, do you still have Microsoft Office and a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader installed?

Can you post a screenshot of the permissions error you are seeing
Follow this guide:- Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums

It's just a permissions issue. The files are 'owned' by whoever created them and are not going to allow any Tom, Dick or Harry to open them. So did you and your wife have separate user accounts under the old OS or was everything done in your user account?

Another way to open ISO files
If you occasionally have to open ISO files, but don't want to download a third party problem (certainly not one called demon or devil or whatever), here's one way to do it: in XP Mode, one of the options is to mount an ISO image rather than the CD-ROM drive at startup.
