how do i format a dos partition on a win7

hello all.i have a dell precision m4700 with gag multi-boot program win7 64bit on c: drive 300gb and a dos partition e:drive 2gb.this is my work computer and was cloned from a image. on bootup, the gag program start and a popup screen appears and to make a selection of which drive c:win7 or e:dos.when e:drive is selected a boot error occurs due to there is no command .com on the e:drive.e:drive was formatted in win7. i want to format e:drive with win98 bootdisk but cant figure out how to get there.i have a usb floppy drive a:\ with win98bootdisk.i have tried starting win7 in safe mode and would have worked but a error message popped up- can not install or run due to incompatibity due to 64 bit verions of windows. if tried seting up gag program to boot from floppy a:drive with win98 bootdisk but again the same error.wont boot from floppy on restart. can someone help me !!! as said this is my work laptop,we use dos programs from time to time hense the reason for a 2 gb e:drive. Any help greatly welcomed.

I'm not sure that Windows 7 allows formating for DOS, as it uses a different boot sector (for non-system drives it's easy, just format as FAT16). The best thing is to boot from that floppy. Have you seen in the BIOS that the boot order is the drive first?

Besides, a probably better solution would be to give DosBox a try. It can run many DOS programs inside Windows (and other OSs too) without the need to dual-boot. Most programs run quite well inside it.

i found a work around. since e:drive was formatted in win98 i used a floppy bootdisk which started before gag.reformatted e:drive with /s. this worked perfect. now i have win7 on c:drive and win98 dos on e:drive.works great now
