SIMPLEPROBLEM: Desktop icons freemixing without user consent

I want my desktop icons to remain in place the way I sort them. But on reboot they have it in their heads that they can just wander around the desktop & settle wherever they like without any permission whatsoever on my part.

How do I drill some discipline into 'em so that each icon knows its place on the desktop & scurries to said location each & every reboot?

Right Click on desktop free space and go to 'view'
Untick the entry marked 'auto arrange' - I believe this will fix your wandering icons.

You can also install a program like DesktopOK to remember and restore desktop icon position when needed.
