confused by what type of disc to use

Hi there. I would like to make a Kaspersky Rescue Disc.
I am not sure what type of disc I should use for this task.
DVD R, CD-RW ETC...
Seem to always get messed up on this subject. Thanks.

I'd use an ordinary CD-R unless you have reason to believe that wouldn't have a high enough capacity (700 MB).

Use a CD-R if you have one.

If it won't fit, you'll know soon enough.

A CD-RW may work, but they have the same capacity as a CD-R.

My guess would be that a DVD-R would work if you have a DVD burner. You'd just be wasting all the excess space on a DVD.

Experiment. If you make the disk, see if it will do what you need it to do. I assume you need it to be a bootable disk.

Yes ignatzatsonic. You are correct. My PC crashed and burned and I want to try this before I do a Windows reinstall. Can't hurt I don't think.

Hi Elljay,

Hope you are happy having recovered any data from your lappy , the Lucid Puppy way.:) ( You must have realised by now how important it is to back up any of your art projects and other data.)

The downloaded Kaspersky Rescue disk ISO will only be around 300MB and so you can safely use a CDR or CDRW. Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10

From what I understand you are planning to check your unbootable HP Lappy with it. So its going to be a onetime use. Prefer a CDRW since you can erase and reuse once your job is over.

As far as the download is concerned, prefer to download it from within Kaspersky programs - if any of your friends has it installed - since it may be uptodate with the latest virus definition database.

Next, Factory Reset or Clean install? Prefer to get up and running fast with a Factory Reset immediately. You can think of a clean install later if you are not happy.

Did your HP Laptop - the precise model number is not known. HP 2000 has many variants - come with Windows 7 preinstalled? If so do you have the Certificate of authenticity in good shape where you can read the Product Key that will be required for a clean install?? Do you have the HP drivers CD for that? If not can you get the drivers from the HP website? Check, check, check before you take a leap. ( I see people frantically searching for Windows 7 drivers on HP website). So take your time examining all possibilities and pitfalls.

Till such time a factory reset if you can do that is the first preference. Once you do that factory reset, image your system before venturing into a clean install.

Have you made the Recovery Disks for your lappy after purchasing it?

I have been afraid to move forward...

Its been an exhausting 71/2 days since my computer crashed. Although I really try and teach myself the ropes, I am still a novice and don't understand all the terminology when it comes to computers. I am really greatful for your feedback.

I have seen where the RW [ReWriteable] disc doesn't work when creating a bootable disc, always best to use the R.
