Custom Folder Icons like in Vista?

Before in vista, if I wanted to, I could just right click any folder and change the picture to a different .ico file. I'm a real customization freak, and the plain yellow folders are driving me nuts. But the Right Click>Properties>Change Icon thing won't work on 7... I already tried looking up on google if there was a way to change it, but all I found was a registry change that turned the default folders into something else...I just want to know if it's possible to change each individual folder like with Vista?

Here's an awesome tutorial that I think may just be what you're looking for.

You can change individiual folder icons in 7 just the same as in Vista. What happens when you try to change an icon?

    There is no option to...
For example, I used to organize my pictures folder with custom icons, so like video game fanart had a playstation controller..that kind of thing.

In vista, I right clicked the folder>properties>customize>change icon then selected my .ico, pressed ok, and then the yellow folder changed to my custom picture...

But in 7 (I'm using ultimate, don't know if that makes a difference) there is no "customize" tab, so I was wondering if it's still possible to do it, and if so, how?

Also, I was playing around with it more, and somehow it ended up so that all my folders in my pictures library all show previews of one of my icons instead of the pictures inside ...and I can't figure out how to change that back...

How it looked in vista (and for some reason, still looks on my external harddrive):

    How it looks in 7:

The "customize" tab under the folder properties appears when I go to modify a folder on my external harddrive, which I used to back up all my data when I installed 7, however that tab doesn't appear anywhere on 7 itself.

Click on the folder you want to customize .... via C:\users
Then the folder you want to change.

Thank you very much! I was doing it via the libraries, and that was why it wasn't working. Sorry for the newbie questions, and thank you for your time!

Jaycee is corect. You cant customize a folder icon from within the library. You would have to goto C:\Users\YOUR NAME\... and customize the folder from that location. Then the customize tab will be visible.

Edit: Looks liek you beat me to it lol
