    Device Stage

    Hi

My Devices and Printers will NOT display as the Device Stage shows it should in other posts. No matter which view (Extra Large Icons down to Details) I cannot get the "extra 'shaded' " type Menu/Toolbar at the top of the Device and Printers box that details a Device/Printer when it's highlighted......I hope that's clear.

Is there a setting I am missing?

    Hello Rod,

Could you post a screenshot of this to help see what it may be? :)

Fathomed this out...you have to click an item in Devices and Printers and IF the maker of the device is supporting the Microsoft Device Stage, the item will effectively open up itself in Devices and Printers with a shaded tool/menu bar and more detail.

Interestingly, I click on Microsoft Keyboard and the Device Stage opens with keyboard mapping options etc, but if I click on either the Microsoft Mouse or Microsoft Dual Wireless Controller, all I get are the normal "Properties" dialog boxes, so Microsoft themselves PARTLY support the Device Stage program, and partly don't!!

    Weird

    Oh, ok Rod.

This is perfectly normal. For what it opens (properties or shaded window) depends completely on the driver for that device. Some devices will only have their basic driver properties page, while others with more advanced options (ex: digital cameras, some printers, multimedia keyboards, etc...) will have the shaded window to use those advanced features. I guess you can think of these shaded windows to be like the devices version of the Jump List that some programs have in the Start Menu to make doing their tasks easier.
