How to format Sony Vaio VGN- Z820G laptop without CD keep Win Genuine?

    Hello,

I've not formatted my laptop before, and the reason I wanna format it because it got that crazy virus. Sometimes the mouse cursor hangs in the middle, and I've to shut it down to be able to use again, and often everything misplaced ; the task bar go by itself to the top or right and then i can use the mouse but cannot click on anything.

I want to format my laptop Sony Vaio VGN- Z820G , and keep it officially Genuine. I don't have CD's with me.

There's something else I'd like to ask you about. There's that annoying vertical line on the screen, and the sound doesn't work at all. There's a red X over the sound icon on Windows' task bar, when I put the cursor over it, it shows this "no speakers or headphones are plugged in". I tried to install the sound driver from Sony website, but it tells me it's not applicable ; it works only with Vista.

Is there anyway I could fix this without taking it to the repair shop?

Your help would be highly appreciated,

    Thank you

Can't help with the sound issue.

    Regarding a reformat:

Does this laptop have a DVD burner?

Can you find a "Certificate Of Authenticity" sticker anywhere on it? Maybe even in the battery compartment?

Are you sure you have a virus or is that an assumption?

    Open up Device Manager........

Do you see any issues ?

Plug in a set of headphones, does the X disappear ?

What version of windows is on the COA ?

Let us know and we will gladly help you reinstall windows

Since you have not done a reformat before, I am pretty sure that model does have a factory recovery partition on the drive (not all Sony's do) you should be able to access it by repeatedly pressing the F10 key when you first power your computer on (Note it may well be a different F key you need to press but far as I recall it should be F10)...

You'll get a much better install by following Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Be sure to read the SPecial Note for Sony Owners at the end.

Everything needed is in the blue link including the installation media. You'll get and keep a perfect install to the exact extent you stick with those steps.
