alphabet "x" appearing continuously in search box automatically

i have installed win7 ultimate x64 in my laptop... as soon as i open the "search programs and files" window from " start" icon, the alphabet "x" starts appearing by its own continuously without end. i am not able to type any text because of this...kindly provide any help...

As YoYo has mentioned, maybe the key is stuck down, try tapping it a few times to release it (do the same to the keys around the x too).

If that doesn't help, try turning your laptop off, remove the charger and battery for a minute and then plug them back in and test again.

The other thing i would suggest if the above doesn't work is start in Safe Mode, does it do it then?
