Missing Desktop Icons and Start up Menu Task Bar in Windows 7 - HELP!

    Hi everyone

I am searching this problem I am having over the last few days. It is very very frustrating now.

I have Windows 7 Enterprise Edition 32 bit
My Desktop Icons and Start Up Task Bar are missing

    I have tried everything -
    Task Manager - Type explorer.exe
Check regedit but didnt find anything there
    Run Malwarebyte NO use
    Used HiJackthis NO use

After Windows boot and splash, all I get is a black screen with Explorer Window showing C D E Drives.

Then after searching everywhere possible in the internet, I had one suspicion. In Control Panel, when I click Task Bar and Menu, and Folder Option Icon, they DO Not Open. All others do open. I think they are disabled there in Task Bar and Menu by Virus??

I have lot of work pending on my Laptop and this is so frustrating now... please HELP any suggestions?

Thanks a lot for your time

Does booting to Safe Mode make any difference?

Scan explorer.exe from the Windows dir on https://www.virustotal.com/ What's the result?

Safe Mode also gave same thing. NO Desktop and Startup Menu

I will upload the explorer.exe and check now and here is the result

    File name:
    explorer.exe
    Detection ratio: 0 / 39

Thanks for your reply again. Btw, why do you think I cannot click Folder Option and Start Menu Task bar Icon in Control panel? Maye that is the clue??

    I have no idea.

Regarding VirusTotal you probably got an old scan report. Scan again and if it says the file has already been analyzed you click the button Reanalyze and wait for the scan to finish.
