Unable to enter sleep/hibernation, black screen instead

Hi,

Recently, I 'fixed' my dual boot system so that I could boot without windows again, using a recovery disk with bootrec.exe \fixmbr and bootrec.exe \fixbcd. The computer is booting properly now.

However, it has developed a problem. I can no longer enter sleep or hibernation. When trying either, the screen will fade to black as expected, but then nothing will happen; no keypresses will turn the screen on again. In the meantime, the computer seems to work 'normal', just with the screen off. After a while, the computer will simply power off and I will be greeted with 'windows didn't shut down successfully' upon restart.

I updated my drivers, updated and removed the Lenovo Power Manager, updated and resetted the BIOS, and checked powercfg -A which looks the way it should according to what I found on the internet.

Can anyone help me?

Hello sanchises and welcome to Seven Forums.

It sounds like some system files might have become damaged or corrupt when you "fixed" your dual boot system. I'd try running a System File Checker scan from an elevated command prompt (Option Two), this tutorial.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I'd also consider running a full scan with your anti-virus of choice just in case. A couple of free on-demand scanners worth considering are Malwarebytes and ESET Online Scanner.

If the problem still exists please post back.

The problem is also often the Display driver, so enable Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware (Step 3) then Check for Updates and install all Important and Optional Updates except Bing. After requested reboots, keep checking back until no more Updates are offered. These may include important patches as well as the drivers Win7 wants.

If not import the latest display driver from the Lenovo Suppport Downloads webpage for your model.

Thanks for the replies. I updated all my display drivers to the latest version, as well as using the SFC \scannow function. I also checked for virusses with the Symantec edition provided by my university. None of this has worked so far. Powercfg -requests shows nothing that keeps the computer from sleeping. Somehow, the 'going to sleep'-process hangs after it turns the screen off. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try rolling back to an earlier display driver in Device Manager>Display Adapter>Driver>Roll backd driver or Update Driver>Browse My Computer>Let me Choose.

It turned out the computer would give a BSOD when I wasn't watching (sneaky bugger...), which I posted BSOD instead of sleep/hibernate here and where the problem was solved. Thanks a lot.
