    Screen won't turn back on

    Hi guys!

New here, just put Windows 7 on my laptop on Sunday. I'm really liking it thus far.

One thing I noticed maybe just today. When the screen shuts off due to time or the lid being closed, it doesn't seem to want to turn back on. I can put into standby and bring it back out and it works just fine. But, I'd rather not have to do that all the time.

It's a Dell Inspiron E1505 with a ATI Radeon X1400 video card if that helps at all.

If you need more info, let me know. Thanks!

    Hi daroga and welcome,

This tutorial from Brink will show you what the power option settings are and from where to access them.
Sometimes coming out of standby, etc doesn't work right. You can turn all of it off if you desire to.

Its a laptop idiosyncrasy. Particularly with Dell and Acer laptops. Altering the power settings will not, I believe, help at all.

you could try the dell management software for your laptop it has the power settings etc that you require and is specific to your laptop.

I also had issues with my Acer, which would become unresponsive after hibernating. (Screen stayed black, constant HDD access, no reaction to keyboard input). Turning off hibernation, fixed that.
I'm also having a small issue with sleep occasionally. Upon wake-up the screen would just be a mess of horizontal lines. Putting it back to sleep and waking it up again always solved the issue (like in your case, daroga). Not sure whether that's the ATI drivers or something else.

Yeah, my issue isn't hibernate or standby. It's just when the computer is on and the screen shuts off after 10 minutes or so. Maybe I'll just set it to not turn the screen off till we find a solution.

Stand by, a notorious problem for me early on in XP's life, hasn't had an issue yet.

    Screen won't turn back on

I have noticed that recently my screen would not turn back on after sleep. I did realize that the computer was still running and i was even able to log back on all with out the screen coming back on (one time it did, not sure how or why). The only 100% solution was for me to shut down the computer and restart. Fortunately, i believe i have found the answer! It appears that the latest nvidia driver is to blame. I did a roll back and voila, my screen will turn back on when woken up.

    Here are some details

    Computer
    Dell XPS M1210 Laptop

    Driver
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 (Prerelease - WDDM 1.0)

When i use the following version

    Date: 1/19/2009
    Version: 7.15.11.7943

My screen WILL NOT turn back on after sleep, so i rolled back to the earlier version

    Date: 12/12/2008
    Version: 7.15.11.7929

    And so far, so good!!

Not sure what's up with the ati cards. Perhaps a driver roll back will work as well.

    Good luck

Does it have a mode switch? Try hitting that.
