Windows 7 Won't Reattach USB Keyboard+Mouse via KVM

I recently replaced my (still-working) Belkin PS/2 KVM w/ a TrendNET TK-209K USB KVM. Suffice it to say, I will be replacing it at my 1st opportunity, but funds don't permit that at the moment. My Lenovo Core 2 Duo w/ 4GB RAM + a fully-up-to-date Windows 7 Ultimate x64 can operate fine when the switch is pointing at the PC from boot. After that any switch away and the system will not reattach the keyboard+mouse. You get the sound of Windows attempting to attach, then it fails, it tries again, fails again, ad infinitum. Just updated the Intel USB2 Hub driver to a 2013 (?) vintage. Can pull the keyboard+mouse from the KVM and they immediately reattach. Just not w/ the KVM in the middle.

BTW, I'm typing this from a live Lubuntu UFD because of course Linux has no real trouble w/ the KVM on the Lenovo, just Windows on one of my PCs. My primary is a HP P4 dc5100 pizza-box, also Windows 7 Ultimate, Intel chipset-based as well, but an x86 mobo. Nothing of consequence to report about it and the KVM other than it works okay. A little twitchy, but okay.

I seriously doubt there's any hope for a solution, other than replace the KVM, but hope springs eternal that maybe there's a registry cheat or some such thing to workaround this for the time being. Thanx for the use of the brain-cells....

PS: Another tidbit is that any more than a half-sec use of the mouse scroll wheel and keyboard and mouse disconnect, never to reconnect (of course) on the Lenovo, til a reboot.

Can't you put the Belkin back for now?

I have a TrendNet TK-407K KVM with USB connections. I have found that when one of the 4 ports doesn't work it is necessary to unplug all of the cables then put them back. I've noticed that the problem can occur due to static electricity which may not always be felt when touching the mouse or keyboard. Unplugging the cables 'normalizes' things.

I have a Linksys KVM stored but it was PS/2 and one of my computers with a Gigabyte motherboard has a PS/2 combination port and having an extra [wireless] mouse tended to be an issue. And, I tried one of the PS/2 splitters for mouse and keyboard in the same socket without any success.

Berton: Not so encouraging, but I will try unplugging and reconnecting the keyboard/mouse on a PC switch for now. If I suspected static (absent obvious arcing), it'd be time to replace everything, which is probably what will happen at my 1st opportunity. Thankfully, I didn't buy this KVM (it was a gift). You can get lucky w/ inexpensive gear or it can be a PITA, roll the dice and keep your fingers crossed. Thanx for the feedback....
