Screen cracked, how can I restore computer?

A few months ago my laptop's screen cracked. I've been using an HDMI cable to still use it, but my computer is getting full and slow and I want to perform a system restore but the HDMI cable doesn't kick in until I'm choosing an account. So I can't see when I'm trying to restore. Any ideas around this? Thanks.

Borrow a regular display to use. Connect it to the external VGA connector on the laptop. You may have to press a Fn+F?? key to switch the display from internal to external.

If by 'restore' you mean reinstall, you can use this method. There you work from an installation DVD.

Get a used screen on ebay for 75 bucks and swap it out. Unless you have a secondary vga port, there is no other way.

Or a TV set. Plus the HDMI may kick in during the installation.
