Cannot Install Windows Media Player Extension In Firefox

Well, I know this is an old problem and I overcame it once before but like the ignoramus I sometimes am I failed to bookmark or otherwise save the solution. I know it involves either creating or copying a folder from C\Program Files x86\Mozilla (Mozilla Firefox?), perhaps a plugin folder, and then copying that folder into "Browser" but I can't seem to do it. It may also involve a missing wmp dll file if I recall but I'm not certain. I saw the solution once on one of Interoperability Bridges' webpages but I can't find it now. I've been to the Mozilla Forums to no avail. I've searched this forum and couldn't find any answers. Does anyone have the solution?

Thank you in advance for your time and any assistance provided. If I fail to quickly acknowledge your replies it's because I'm currently in China, 12 hours ahead of Eastern Standard time U.S.A., and when you're awake I'm, in all probability, sleeping.

Hello maxie,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I'm using Firefox 32.0.3. I just installed it a few hours ago as I usually use Pale Moon or IE, depending on what I'm doing and which website I visit. All of my browsers are x86 versions. I had successfully installed the WMP plugin in my Pale Moon browser several months ago but when I was fooling around trying to install it on Firefox I made some changes and inadvertently removed it from Pale Moon because Pale Moon is nothing more than a customized version of Firefox, using several of Firefox's configurations. Actually, once I successfully install it on Firefox it will also reappear in Pale Moon.

It takes me awhile to respond because there's only three Internet gateways in all of China before requests are funneled through the firewall in Beijing and there are hundreds of millions of users on here at any given time. Therefore, it takes forever for a webpage to load, which usually results in a timeout before it loads. The only reason I decided to install Firefox is that what takes me only a few seconds to accomplish in the U.S. can take ten or fifteen minutes here, due to all the tab reloads I have to do after the timeouts. I was hoping that Firefox would overcome this problem but it does not.

How to Fix Broken Incompatible Extensions in Mozilla Firefox and Make Them Compatible With Newer Versions? - AskVG

Hello again, maxie,

My problem is not that an extension or plugin is broken, it's just that since, I think, Firefox 4.0, Firefox made changes that require me to copy a folder and insert this folder into the plugins folder in Program Files. I simply forget which folder to copy and which folder to insert it in. That's all. I apologize for taking so long to respond but I have to continuously reload webpages when they timeout. I may simply forget about trying to get the WMP extension into my fresh install of Firefox and instead do a System Restore and hope whatever folder within a folder I need will reappear in Program Files x86 in the Mozilla folder, at least putting the WMP extension back into my Pale Moon browser.

Hello again, maxie,

Thank you for your prompt reply and the link to the solution. I have bookmarked and also saved the link to an external drive for future reference. This is the solution that I needed, although I had made so many changes to both Firefox and Pale Moon, deleting, copying, pasting, changing and adding folders in Program Files for both browsers, that I had to completely uninstall both browsers, including deleting all registry entries relating to both browsers, before installing fresh, clean copies of both.

I now have the WMP plugin installed on both browsers. Thank you very much for your time and assistance. I sincerely appreciate it.
