    Worth upgrading to windows 7??

    Hello everyone,
first of all i hope this is the right category, if not then mods please move it.

Im getting my new laptop tomorrow (windows vista), i can upgrade to windows 7 for free, now the question is that is it worth upgrading? or should i just stick to win vista?

If i do decide to upgrade can i run win xp/vista programs? Or do i have to wait for lets say netbeans to make a program for win 7??

    thank you

Almost every piece of software I have from XP / Vista works fine in 7. I found Vista to be serviceable but very bloated. 7 is zippier and overall improved. I say go for it! Do it now rather than after you've got your programs all settled in. Less upheaval that way.

    One question,
    1. Have you used Vista before, if not, use it to get used to it first, it will make your conversion to Seven easier

Whats the spec of your Laptop.
Remember the laptop should be designed to use Vista efficiently.

Vista certainly, XP lap of the gods with obsolete OS's

    Ask around.

    Go for it.

Everything I ran under XP runs better under Win7.

My son, whose big (by my standards anyway) into games has not yet voiced a problem running any of his games on Win7.

    Definitely upgrade to Win7

What brand laptop are you getting? Since just about every laptop manufacturer loads a bunch of crappy software that slows down your laptop which you will never use it's definitely worth the upgrade to have a fresh O.S. (Operating System) on the laptop :)

I am big (probably not as big into games as your son) but I play my fair share of games and have not had any problems. I ran the Beta & RC before the Window7 was released. Now I am running Windows 7 Professional with no problems
