Windows 7: Quickbooks backing up data as read only

Quickbooks backing up data as read only

This problem is new with the same software.

QB is now writing the data file as read only to the CD drive using QB internal backup. You cannot uncheck the 'properties' flag without getting an OS notice that Admin privileges are required. Loading explorer with right click admin results in the same notice.

As a test, on a different machine with the same software we used an external CD drive (for the first time) instead of the internal. QB issued a prompt not seen before asking whether the media should be regarded as a CD/DVD or flash drive. I said flash drive and the read only issue was resolved on that machine.

So I brought the external drive home figuring a new drive would trigger that same QB query 'CD or Flash' but oddly and unfortunately wasn't prompted.

Two questions:

1. Is there a way to tell the OS, globally and forever, that whenever it sees the CD drive to regard it as a flash drive?

2. Or, is there a way to globally and forever, tell the OS to not write data to media as read only?

To add: The CPAs in my area want the company data files on a USB Thumb/Flash drive as sometimes they have to edit them during their audit. Using a CD does make that more difficult and using a formatted CD-RW may work but sometimes works only on the computer it was formatted/used on. Files on a CD-R are Read-only by default but can lose that attribute when copied back to the HDD.
