Can't sync windows clock / tried a solution and now not an admin

Hello,

On my computer, the clock was out of sync. I went in and it said there had been an error syncing. I clicked to manually sync then - it said error. I changed the site it was syncing with - error. I restarted, I waited a week (in case it would sort itself out with the regular sync), error.

I googled and found this thread:

Windows clock going out of time, sync errors

I followed the instructions provided by Sir George in the 2nd post:

>> At the elevated command prompt (with administrator privileges), type the following command

>> 1. Type "w32tm /debug /disable" and press 'Enter' (net stop w32time gave an Error 5 Access denied response!)

>> 2. Type "w32tm /unregister" and press 'Enter' (without using the first command the second did not work!)

>> you should get the response " W32Time successfully unregistered"

>> 3. Type "w32tm /register" and press 'Enter'

>> you should get the response "W32Time successfully registered"

>> 4. Type "net start w32time" and press 'Enter'

>> you should get the response "The windows Time Service is starting. The windows time service was started successfully"

Step 1 said it ran successfully. Step 2 said access denied. And, yes, I was running as administrator.

And now when I go into "Change Settings" in "Internet Tab", it says Unable to continue - you don't have the permissions, which is what happened to the user in the thread I was looking at but I hadn't read all the way down to see that problem

I am an administrator, I am able to access everything else as an administrator, it's only this specific button. Any thoughts/ideas?

Well, unfortunately; the one quirk it seems windows 7 has; is unless you change the security policies and make your exact user name of the administrator group; then upon installation; even if you are a administrator; windows will still restrict your ability to perform certain functions within windows. To alieviate this; you need to go into control panel; the system and security category, then go to administrative tools. And from there you should be able to make your exact user name a member of the administrators group. Ive had to do this exact thing myself in order to perform certain functions. Give this a shot; then try and run the commands to sync your clock and see if they work. If not, post back and we can take it from there.

Hey Matt,

That plus a few restarts worked to let me regain admin access and then (after another restart) to sync the clock.

I also think it fell into the category of asking someone for help fixed it

Thanks!
