Display relative dates in Windows 7 folders

Hello,

Is there any way to display the dates of files/folders as "today" "yesterday" etc. instead of the full date? Windows only ever displays, for example, "23/10/2014 5:12 pm" regardless of how much I expand the date column. On a Mac, the date changes from the short format to a longer format as the date column is changed, and obviously has the far more user-friendly relative dates. Is it possible to get this behaviour on Windows 7? I'm guessing not, as an internet search for "windows 7 use relative dates" does not bring up anything remotely useful.

Thanks,

Paul

These are two different issues. One is the display mode of the date, and the other ("relative") is a data element.

For the 'display mode' of the date, you can set it for dates displayed in Windows Explorer in Preferences. I don't beleive dynamic display is an option.

Windows has the ability to display the "Last Updated" date. But then you'd have to know today's date to calculate the 'relative' date (oh, the horror).

Thanks for the reply. Hmmm, as I suspected, looks like it's not going to happen (either of the ideas).

Another mystery:
In the folder options (or is it view options, choose details, customize this folder, folder options, organize...it's utterly ridiculous how many menus there are to do pretty much the same thing) there are the logical column headings of "date created", "date modified" etc, but there's also "date" which seemingly just displays a random date next to the file. Any ideas what this is actually supposed to do?

In most versions of Windows there's always been 3 to 5 ways to do pretty much the same thing or to get the same result.

In Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options... look at the bottom of the General tab, has a link for "How do I change folder options?", may have some more information for you.

Date and Date Created are the same in Windows Explorer.

Wrong dates on folders / Windows Explorer
Hello, Is there a way to force Windows Explorer (Windows 7 Premium) to display the proper dates in the "date modified" category? It's displaying the same date as in "date created". I've edited some of the files in that folder a few days ago but it still displays a 2008 date. Thanks in advance,...
