Win 7 Power Options or HP Power Manager ??

HP Factory Install is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilities which interfere with better versions built into Win7. That's why most tech enthusiasts won't even run such an install but instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Everything needed is in the blue link to get and keep a perfect install just like a million others have done without a single complaint.

but HP is the worst of all brands for its bloatware so if you ever want to experience native perfect Win7 performance on that machine I'd do the reinstall.

Greg...thanks very much for your reply my friend.I agree completely with what you said about the bloatware thing. I even told myself that the next time I bought a pc that I would automatically do a clean install before even attempting to use the thing ! He,he.But,I've used it like this for a couple of years now without (too) much trouble.Occasionally it would get a little bogged down (a few times a year maybe) and I would run Eusing's free registry cleaner (I know,I know) and that would speed things up quite well.

I just hate doing those re-installs.SUCH a hassle.Especially when you're constantly running into other little issues cuz yer a slight noob and you have to Google & Google & Google until you get the issue fixed.I spend enough time on just that ! Hell,recently,I spent over EIGHT hours working on another problem (I forget what at the moment.I'm tired) And,I've spent DAYS on other problems as well.So,doing a re-install is a fantastic idea.But,not right now.

And,speaking of bloatware !Can you believe these idiots actually put the Lightscribe on this pc without the media player (CD/DVD) even being able to use that ??? Hmmmmmmm.Makes you wonder.I've heard some complaints about these HP guys but,wow ! I will give them this though this little Presario has actually been pretty nice to me (fingers crossed).

I've had a freakin migraine for the last 4 days because I've been on this thing so much lately I actually DL'd a Linux version about 2 years ago that I was gonna put on my mommas desktop and my laptop.And,STILL haven't gotten around to it ! (Actually,I did screw around with it a little on mommas dektop.But,for some reason,it wouldn't take.I think I may have DL'd it wrong. I tried the live cd and I was able to get to the desktop but,nothing would work.I couldn't open any programs. Anyway.....THANKS,Greg for your reply and for puttin' up with me !

Most registry cleaners are sales scams which will damage Win7 irreparably. If you feel the need to use one, then use only CCleaner's Disk and Registry cleaner.

But the tips in Clean Up Factory Bloatware or Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 will give you what you need to maintain Win7 perfectly without anything else.

I don't know why you think a reinstall would be so difficult. A million users have followed that tutorial without a single complaint. Plus we're here to help you get through it. Then if you stick with only the tools and methods recommended you will keep a perfect install for as long as you do.

It's not that doing the re-install would be difficult for me.It's just the time consumption issue.I've done many re-installs on different machines.I just don't have time for that these days.In the future maybe.But,just not right now.

Let us know how the bloatware cleanup goes. It may recover about half of the OS's native performance providing System files don't proved to be irreparably damaged.

I WAS LOOKING at the cleanup bloatware page.And,unfortunately that page will not work for me.Too many things not where they are supposed to be,options not available,etc.So,if anything...eventually,maybe,sometime,I MIGHT get around to doing a clean install.I WOULD like to.

I got momma a laptop (used/refurbished) of off ebay awhile back and I believe it had a clean instal.Works great ! Fast.But,again.....until I have the time,this is just out of the question.Anyway,thanks for all the info,Greg.....NOW.....back to my original question ! Can I remove the HP Pwr. Mgr. ? SHOULD I remove the HP Power Mgr. ? I'm afraid that if I remove the HP manager,that it's gonna screw something up !

I don't know why you declare flatly that Clean Up Factory Bloatware won't work for you as it has everyone else. It says clearly that you don't need any HP programs at all. The HP wireless manager alone adds 30 seconds to boot time and interferes with a much better one built into WIn7. These should be uninstalled in Control Panel or at least unchecked in msconfig>Startup and >Services tabs (after Hiding all MS services). None of them need to run at boot except your AV, which should be a free lightweight one like MSE or Panda free for best performance.

GREG ! Thanks for your help.....What do you mean by HP having a "minimal" recovery option ?I'm guessing that's not the same thing as a clean instal ?

It leaves out most the bloatware except the annoying HP Wireless manager which should be uninstalled in Control Panel>Programs to connect using Win7's superior manager in system tray.

But it already has the drivers and activation to save quite a bit of time. You'll still need to enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) to run all Important and Optional Updates, with reboots, keep checking back for Updates until no more are offered.
