    Windows Explorer weird behavior

    Hello,

I've dealing with a weird issue, and I'm lost at this point... need some additional pair of "eyes" to find out the issue described below:

Machine: HP Pro Model 3515 64 bits
    OS : Windows 7 Pro 64bits
    RAM : 4 GB
    Processor: AMD
    Antivirus: ESET NOD 32 (current/updated)

PC was working perfectly fine until yesterday, all the sudden every time I do open Windows Explorer (from the pinned icon in the task bar) it shows ONLY the Favorite and Library Folder and with a search icon spinning over those folders...never respond or change state after that, however if at the same time I do open a second instance (right click over the icon) it works as it should showing everything.... that is the first indication that something is going on... the second indication is that every folder is show now with the "Empty Folder Icon" even when there are files inside of each folder... right click over a folder doesn't show the "Customize" tab where to change or restore the default icon... at the same time if I delete any file and then go to the desktop and clean the recycle bin the "Recycle Icon" disappear ... I'm really going crazy with this... I had explore every setup for the folders without luck...

Now the painful part.... I did re-install the computer from zero... wipe out it completely... after re-install all the test run perfectly... no issues at all... until I restore a couple folders (that shown the issue) from the backup... immediately after restore everything breaks again.. explorer not working correctly, incorrect icons (or disappearing)...

Obviously I did run antivirus/antimalware scans over the backup folders/files with several tools (NOD32 MBAM, Trendmicro, Norton, Windows Security Essential) with no hits... clean (apparently).

Any of you guy have faced something like this?... I will appreciate any input/idea to find and solve the issue

    thanks
    MiguelT
