Thanks Dzomlija, now everything is clear.

I'm very taken with 7, and I really really don't want to look back to vista or XP.

Do microsoft offer incentives to the beta community when the product goes to market, or is it a case of "thanks for the support and feedback - the queue starts back there...?"
Yeah, it generally works thats way, depending on your point of view.

The whole point of providing public betas is to allow the developers to test the software on a variety of hardware configurations that they ordinarily would not be able to test with. In my experience there are no 2 hardware configurations that are 100% identical. BETAs allow for the testing of the widest selection of hardware variations that is not possible in a controlled lab environment.

For me, the whole incentive is being able to try something new before committing the cash investment in purchasing the final product. And so far I'll say (like most others will too) that Windows 7 is by far the most stable BETA release from anywhere that I've used, ever. If this is the stability and reliability that Microsoft can offer with a BETA product, then I think the final release is going to be something truly groundbreaking...

I totally agree, my only hope is that they don't bring out a plethora of flavours like they did with vista.

I'd love to see just an Ultimate and an enterprise version for sale, with the x86 and 64 discs together like vista ultimate.

Lets face it, it's human nature to want the max, even though you might not really use all of it's featureset. I wonder how many home basic MS actually sold?

All the PC oem's were budling vista home premium in their machines. I really don't want to be paying 300 usd for it as vista ultimate was. Still, we wait and see.

I agree totally about the chance to have input and also to be able to feedback suggestions and ideas.
