dllhost.32, com surrogate process uses 100% of memory

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on an HP AMD II X2 240

I have read and reread answers to this problem for days. I have seen similar problems reported and none of the threads seem to end with a fixed computer. I am only computer literate enough to be dangerous. I can't put a finger when it started. I suspect a couple months. I couldn't figure out why my computer kept freezing. It even blue screen crashed twice. I have been managing by playing whack a mole (I stole this from someone else but it's a perfect description) with the processes which keep reappearing, dllhost.32 Com surrogate. Yes, it's worse when thumbnails are on a page but who wants to surf without them? It is there after a clean boot with nothing but MS services running. It is there after updating all drivers. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash player. It is there after removing update kb2670838. (they fault this update yet require it) It is there when using Firefox with no IE browsers installed. I have try tried disabling DEP but like everyone else it says I'm not allowed or something like that. I now get 100,000 Temporary files in a matter of hours. CCleaner gets them but it takes forever. I run and uninstalled Spy Bot and Adaware. I have installed Avast. I've done microsoft's safety scan. I have learned so much looking for the cure. In the meantime I get nothing done. Is this an MS glitch or a virus and how can I go on with life?

Hi Richard and welcome to SevenForums!

You could give this a try to see if any anti-virus products picks up anything from your running processes:

Thanks Tookeri. I did run that and it found no virus. I have taken such a round about way to an end here I think. Many others have said fixed only to post a day later that the problem is back. I read everything I could find about getting rid dllhost32 com.surrogate processes choking and I determined Avast was a popular virus scanner so I tried that and it fould a bgillion pups. I cleaned but still had the prob and the block runs nonstop blocking several hijackers. I typed those names in and it seemed the Malwarbytes program was effective in removing them and so far two hours after reboot my computer fan is quiet. Music to my ears, lol.

Great! Yes, Malwarebytes is good in detecting and removing those. An advice is to check downloaded programs before running or installing them. I don't know if the free version integrates with windows explorer, but that's an easy way to scan files.

Here's another advice that also uses the right-click menu in explorer: VirusTotal + HerdProtect - Check Files with Simultaneously
