Works well on USB's.

Would this work if i formatted the usb recently? Because i formatted the usb.
I guess it depends. If you've written new files onto the formatted drive then possibly it won't work. There's no guarantees with file recovery - all you can do is try it.

Recuva is what I use most of the time but I've had better success with DiskDigger and also PhotoRec.

So i used most of the programs here. Am i suppose to view as thumbnails to see if the pictures are still there? If so, i dont see any of those files.

Results preview

If you don't see an image then it's not going to be recoverable. If you've used TestDisk and PhotoRec then you won't know if the files have actually been recovered until you view the output.

Recovered files are saved in the specified directory.

By viewing the output... what do you mean exactly? You mean what you have on your photo? I seen a lot of pictures where i click preview and the only way to see something is view as thumbnail, then very vere few photos show up.

Output folder

Output - is the folder where the recovered files have been saved. (using Photorec) - needs to be run as administrator.

Preview - in DiskDigger and Recuva you get a preview of each image. You can filter results by file type. If you can't see any images try PhotoRec.

PhotoRec

They're two different programs. Open the TestDisk folder and you should find a file named photorec_win.exe - that's PhotoRec and you need to right click and choose "Run as administrator"

PhotoRec instructions

The instructions for what you need to do with the downloaded file are on the download link page:

Note   Note

Run PhotoRec executable

If PhotoRec is not yet installed, it can be downloaded from TestDisk Download. Extract the files from the archive including the sub-directories.

To recover files from hard disk, USB key, Smart Card, CD-ROM, DVD, etc., you need enough rights to access the physical device.

Under Windows, start PhotoRec (ie testdisk-6.13/photorec_win.exe) from an account in the Administrator group. Under Windows Vista or later, right click photorec_win.exe and then click Run as administrator to launch PhotoRec.

PhotoRec usage

I reckon you'll need help with PhotoRec. I need some rest so if you've got questions maybe another forum member will help or I can check this thread again tomorrow.

Guide is here:

PhotoRec Step By Step - CGSecurity

You need to choose the partition to scan and USB's are usually FAT format rather than NTFS.

Enable "Brute Force" mode. You can scroll through options using arrow keys or TAB.
